Life in Color: The Artistic Journey of Christine Rooney

Christine Rooney’s love for broad bands of color, horizon lines, and quiet landscapes began on the small family farm near Springfield, Ohio where she grew up. After graduating in fine arts from The Ohio State University in 1970, Ms. Rooney worked as a landscape artist for an architectural design firm in Palo Alto, California. While in California, she also studied art at San Jose State University and Foothill College.

In 1973, she and her husband, Michael, moved back to the East Coast. She resumed graduate studies at West Chester State University in Pennsylvania and later at Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Virginia. During this time she began working as a freelance artist.

She has won numerous awards and has shown in solo and group invitational gallery shows.  In addition to painting, Christine teaches classes and workshops in drawing, pastel, and encaustic painting.

Ms. Rooney works in a variety of mediums: silverpoint, graphite, encaustics, pastels and oils. Her home studio is in Lynchburg, Virginia near the Blue Ridge Mountains.  You may see her works at her downtown studio above The Art Box at the corner of 12th and Clay Streets. She also teaches classes and workshops in pastel and encaustic painting.
