Collection: Russell Voelker

"My life’s journey has been different than most. I grew up a military brat and that has provided me with a perspective on life based on over 30 changes of address. Having lived from the Canadian border of New York State to Oahu, Hawaii where I graduated from high school, a life of change has been my constant. My transient lifestyle brought its challenges but it has also rewarded me with a broad vision of places and people.

These are the experiences I reflect upon at my easel. I completed my formal schooling at Utah State University where I graduated with an Advertising major and Illustration minor. Like many artists, my pursuit of art became a reality only after my responsibility of providing for my family. Although my work in advertising and marketing kept me in the creative loop, it was only later in life that I could just simply paint....for myself. So now, faced with a blank canvas, I choose to travel through my artistic creativity with an open mind which is why my art work does not have a specific “style.”

I love to experiment with a wide variety of techniques and tools....sometimes tight and realistic, other times, impressionistic or even abstract....sometimes only a palette knife, other times just a brush. I also enjoy varying the subjects of my art from landscapes and seascapes to birds and wildlife and everything in between. What a terrific way to spend my senior years! I hope viewing my art brings you a sense of pleasure and takes you away from the challenges in your life, if only briefly."
